We have adapted our usual two-day workshop for a virtual tele-conferencing format to provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention -- when to use, when not to use Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.

MI: The Basics

Motivational Interviewing is a style of communicating about behavior change. Whether you're a healthcare provider who speaks to patients about quitting smoking or taking medication, or an educator who speaks to students about time management and study skills, or a social worker who speaks to clients about coping skills and substance use, this workshop is for you. Foundations of Motivational Interviewing

Over the course of 2 full days, participants will learn and have practice utilizing the basic relational concepts of Motivational Interviewing (“The Spirit of MI”) as well as the four basic skills of MI: open-ended questions, affirming, reflecting, and summarizing.

By the end of this 2-day event participants will be able to:

1. Define Motivational Interviewing

2. Give an example of ambivalence and describe it’s role in the change process

The learning process is varied across several modalities, to maximize your opportunity to familiarize yourself with motivational interviewing as it can be applied in your practice.

Entrevista Motivacional – Módulo Básico

O curso introdutório à Entrevista Motivacional tem como objetivo familiarizar os participantes com os principais conceitos e metodologia da Entrevista Motivacional por meio de exercícios práticos para que os participantes tenham a oportunidade de desenvolver habilidades na aplicação da Entrevista Motivacional.
