Advancing Motivational Interviewing
Human services providers representing a variety of clinical and support practices have actively engaged in Motivational Interviewing training for over 25 years. Many in the community have completed numerous courses for various jobs and projects. Although many practitioners are using MI skills, some feel stuck or they would like to go deeper. Others just want to refresh and recharge their work with the method. As a foundational skill, advancing one’s work with MI in a career and organizational investment as the skills are used almost universally with clients and staff. Advancing Motivational Interviewing has been created to strategically address the listening and change processes to best promote movement toward obtaining identified goals.
Learning Objectives: As a result of attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify four techniques that allow for additional complete reflection among behavioral health clients seeking therapeutic services.
- Practice writing branching scripts to deepen change conversations among behavioral health clients seeking therapeutic services.
- Create personal mastery exercise that deepens change talk and promotes movement toward action planning and can be applied as a change strategy for behavioral health clients seeking therapeutic services.
- Apply at least four strategies to evoke change talk among behavioral health clients seeking therapeutic services.
- Demonstrate ability to identify four types of client language and create effective responses to each of these types of verbalizations.
- Implement agenda mapping skill to improve focus among behavioral health clients seeking therapeutic services
