Motivational Interviewing (MI) is "a collaborative conversation style for strengthening a person's own commitment to change" (Miller & Rollnick, 2013) and is recognized as an evidence-based practice. Providers who are trained in MI learn how to effectively communicate with others to both evoke wisdom and share their own expertise effectively.
This class will introduce participants to Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts and practice. Participants will learn about the fundamentals of MI including understanding ambivalence, the MI Spirit, and how we can best support others considering change. This workshop will include opportuities for topic discussion and practice using reflective listening, developing focus, and recognizing, evoking, and responding to a person’s “change talk”.
