Level 1 Motivational Interviewing (Introduction)
The first of our 3 steps towards a certificate in Advanced Motivational Interviewing, this 2 day workshop introduces the principles and practice of the MI approach. It provides participants with the foundation knowledge and skills to be able to practice MI in their workplace and begin their journey towards competent and confident practice. Some people attend this as a standalone workshop but completion of Step 1 also gives eligibility to proceed to steps 2 and 3.
By the end of the course participants will be able to
- discuss the concept of motivation and relate it to a model of the way people change.
- make a realistic assessment of a service user’s(client or patient)’s motivation
- use their interviewing and counselling skills to unlock people’s willingness and ability to act in their own best interests
