Jimmy is the Director of the Intensive Treatment Division at the Columbus Ohio Veterans Administration. This Division includes the following programs: Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM), Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) and Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC). He also serves as a subject matter expert for the National MI and MET program. He specializes in the training, implementation and clinical supervision of the following Evidence Based Practices (EBP); Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Radically Open (RO)-DBT. Jimmy serves as an adjunct professor for The Ohio State University College of Social Work where he received both his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Social Work.
Jimmy Portner possesses experience which spans the use of MI in clinical settings, teaching, and research. This expertise includes a thorough and detailed understanding of the core components of MI, as well as an understanding of the optimal delivery mechanisms and approaches to assess fidelity. He has more than ten years of experience in MI and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).
