I am a Professor in the Department of Community Health and Wellness at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY, where I direct the Mental Health: Human Services program. Prior to becoming full time faculty I worked for many years as a Clinical Research Scientist, developing and implementing behavioral intervention research. My research and consulting have centered around sexual health and HIV prevention, substance use treatment and harm reduction approaches, and promoting the well being of LGBTQIA persons and sex workers of all genders.
I am an experienced MI trainer, supervisor, coach and MITI coder. I love working with diverse trainees - have trained with people from backgrounds such as psychology/psychiatry, social work, MDs, nurses, substance abuse counselors and peer outreach workers. I have delivered introductory through advanced level training, with taped practice samples and feedback, in both the US and Thailand. Currently I offer MI training and program implementation support as an independent consultant. I am also an expert in fidelity monitoring, MITI coding, and behavioral intervention research.
