I am Associate Professor of Exercise and Health Behaviour at the University of Exeter. My research interest is physical activity epidemiology and public health. I have published a number of articles on exercise promotion and have been involved in the evaluation of a number of large community exercise interventions in the UK. My current research is directed towards understanding neighborhood influences on physical activity with a view to better understanding inequalities in physical activity. I have written book chapters on motivational interviewing and co-authored a book ‘Changing Eating & Exercise Behaviour: A handbook for professionals’.
I attended a train the trainer workshop with Bill Miller and Steve Rollnick in 1996 and have been running training workshops ever since. I have experience training a wide range of professionals including nurses, doctors, psychologists, fitness professionals, dietitians, social workers and physiotherapists. I have also received training in CBT and have many years experience as a counsellor as well as trainer. My training is adapted to each user groups specific requirements and I always look to ensure that any training has a direct practical application to workshop attendees work environments.
