I am a counseling psychology trained licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia where I have worked primarily with emerging adults in various college/university settings as well as veterans at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond. I was fortunate to first get involved with Motivational Interviewing from the research end, engaging in several intervention clinical trials related to various health behaviors as well as coding studies. I was a Motivational Interviewing Consultant at the VA during the "roll out" of MI to mental health and substance abuse providers, which involved training, coaching, coding session tapes and providing feedback. It was fun subsequently to see one of my "coachees" become a member of MINT! Most recently I have been involved with training and supervising counselors and psychologists in their field placements who usually are very interested in MI.
I am interested in planning trainings with groups or individuals to meet their specific needs. Because the research shows that people learn MI best with coaching and feedback, I like to include this whenever feasible. I have experience providing overviews, longer multiple-day trainings and/or ongoing coaching with tape review and feedback.
