I had the good fortune to meet Bill Miller in 1989, at a time when I was well-embedded in the routines of a busy clinical practice in the UK National Health Service. Our collaboration and friendship then extended to others in the MINT network, and this has been a huge creative support to me over the years. I live in Cardiff, Wales with Nina Gobat, we have a new little boy, Nathan Albie, and we are surrounded also by my other kids, Jacob, Stefan and Maya. We have a little oak woodland that draws us to earthy times with swings, fires and tree felling.
I lead training workshops with Orla Adams in Cardiff, Wales, UK. Please see our website for further details: https://www.micardiff.co.uk/
I also provide sports coaching and mentoring consultancy. Please see my personal website for further details: https://www.stephenrollnick.com/
I believe that MI is best integrated into practice by seeing it as a style with techniques that could lie beneath most other approaches to helpfulness. This foundation is not just a quiet and curious client-centred activity, but a purposeful collaborative effort to find a focus for change and to encourage the client to say how and why they might achieve this. The more MI is commercialized, the shorter will its value last.
